Which siding to choose for your home?
This external protection is used to cover a building. Thermal and acoustic insulation, cladding is available in different materials, more or less modern. To find your way around, it is better to know their respective characteristics.
Wood, natural and warm
This authentic material has long been appreciated for protecting a home with shingles and has many advantages. It can also be installed in the form of slats or panels on a facade. Solid wood is popular but its derivatives are also suitable. The species of maritime pine or woodland pine, like the varieties of fir, give good results in terms of insulation. Their resistance to humidity must be perfect, and it is evaluated on a scale from 1 to 5.
PVC and metal, very contemporary
These materials are less expensive than wood and have undeniable advantages. The first is generally in the form of a clinched cladding, i.e. a uniform surface, without discontinuity. PVC also allows a beautiful imitation of wood, at a lower cost and with less maintenance. The finishes of these faux wood shingles are smooth or well veined with the appearance of authentic resinous species. In addition, PVC is easy to install. As for the metal, it is often galvanized steel. It is rather reserved for industrial buildings.
Stone and other materials
As noble materials, natural minerals such as basalt and marble are used on high quality facades. On the other hand, concrete and cement, which are less expensive to install, are an interesting external insulation solution. Similarly, terracotta, which is more traditional, has characteristics that are conducive to sound insulation. Easy to maintain, resin and fibrocement are economical and durable options. As for glass, it is more suitable for public buildings. Before starting work, it is therefore advisable to ask the professional(s) concerned for a quotation for cladding.
